Computers For Families is Winning!

With all the bad news printed today it’s hard to find the positive things that are happening in the world let alone in our community. Here is some good news! I attended an annual celebration for our education system in connection with Computers for Families. As our State budget shifts the focus from educating our youngsters our local community develops new programs that sustain themselves for the future.

Computers for families supplies computers to homes where families cannot afford them. This allows whole classrooms of students to keep up with lessons at a higher level of learning than if computers were not available. The advantage is evident in the classroom and a change is happening in the families as well. The students become teachers to the parents who are learning to communicate via email with friends and family. Everyone is learning something new.

Just last week one of the instructors had a conversation in English that was converted to Spanish for the parents then back to English for the teacher. This was a first and if it was not for Computers for Families this communication would not have happened.
